A man and his son get STUCK in a STORM DRAIN for eight hours

On the road that connects the towns of Tenente Portela and Três Passos, in Rio Grande do Sul's countryside, the farmer Ivo Fagundes and his 10 years old child, Josoe, were quite irresponsibly riding a motorcycle in order to visit their relatives when Ivo lost the control of the vehicle in the 55th kilometer of the road. They fell into a 2 meters deep storm drain in the road's hard shoulder at Saturday's 6 pm. Both of them yelled for help; however, no passer-by made an effort to hear them.
The night was coming; Ivo and Josoe seem to have stood a 5 Celsius degrees temperature in the ditch. Finally, at half past two on the following day, they were rescued by a local citizen that was able to hear their cries for help.  Then, the father was taken to the hospital with probably having broken three ribs, the right wrist and a finger. The child is presumed to be well.
Eight hours; they were eight hopeless and suffering hours. The risks this farmer and his kid have run are uncountable. Why do these citizens pay taxes? In order to pass eight hours stuck in a hole, bleeding and injuried, during the winter, without an immediate State medical help? What about the kid? It's fairly unacceptable that a 10 year old child suffers such an accident due to other's negligence. Well, now he's got a story to tell his classmates.

Now, why does this always happen to poor people? I mean, how like are you to read a story like that with someone driving a Mercedes?
The world is a cruel place, it seems.

This is the fact I tried to emphasize in my post...
however, if that tragedy happened to a rich man, that would be interesting anyway.
